Do You Need a Pressure Regulator for Your Home?

A pressure regulator valve, often called a PRV, helps control water pressure in your plumbing system, preventing damage to pipes and fixtures. If you experience fluctuating water pressure or live in an area with high water pressure, installing a PRV can protect your home’s plumbing and improve water flow consistency. Over time, a pressure regulator can wear out, which can allow your home’s plumbing pressure to exceed the safe range of 60 to 70 psi. If you suspect high pressure, use a handheld pressure gauge to read your system’s pressure. If it’s outside the safe range, a pressure regulator replacement is a task best left to the professionals.
