Not every drain needs hydro jetting. We’ll recommend the solution that makes the most sense for your home.

Hydro jetting is one of the most effective ways to clear years of grease, sludge, scale, and stubborn buildup from inside a drain or sewer line—but it isn’t always the right solution. Our experienced sewer specialists will identify what’s causing the problem, explain your options, and recommend the repair that makes the most sense for your home.

Whether that means hydro jetting, a sewer camera inspection, drain cleaning, or another repair altogether, you’ll get honest recommendations, quality workmanship, and the peace of mind that comes from choosing a company that’s been solving sewer and drain problems since 1978.

What Is Hydro Jetting?

Hydro jetting cleans the inside of drain and sewer pipes using high-pressure water—often up to 4,000 PSI. Instead of simply punching a small hole through a clog like a traditional drain snake, hydro jetting scrubs the inside walls of the pipe, flushing away years of accumulated buildup.

Hydro jetting is commonly recommended for:

  • Heavy grease buildup
  • Soap scum and sludge
  • Mineral scale
  • Recurring drain clogs
  • Some tree root intrusion
  • Preparing pipes for relining or inspection

When the pipe is structurally sound, hydro jetting often restores much better flow than traditional drain cleaning alone.

When Hydro Jetting Works Best

Hydro jetting is one of the most effective drain cleaning methods available when buildup inside the pipe is the primary problem.

It works especially well for:

  • Kitchen drain lines filled with grease
  • Older cast iron sewer lines with sludge buildup
  • Repeated drain backups
  • Preparing pipes for camera inspections
  • Removing loose tree roots before additional repairs

Because hydro jetting cleans the entire inside diameter of the pipe, many homeowners experience longer-lasting results than with snaking alone.

When Hydro Jetting Isn’t the Right Solution

Hydro jetting is an excellent cleaning tool—but it cannot repair structural sewer problems.

It will not permanently fix:

  • Broken sewer pipes
  • Collapsed drain lines
  • Pipe bellies
  • Improper pipe slope
  • Separated pipe joints

Sometimes hydro jetting is still recommended because it restores flow long enough to properly inspect the pipe or gives homeowners time to plan for a future sewer line repair. Other times, moving directly to repair is the better investment.

That’s why we always recommend understanding what’s causing the blockage before deciding on the solution.

We Diagnose Before We Recommend

Hydro jetting is a powerful drain cleaning method, but it isn’t the right solution for every sewer problem.

Before recommending any work, we identify what’s causing the blockage. A sewer camera inspection often tells us whether hydro jetting will provide a long-lasting solution or whether the pipe has a structural problem that should be repaired instead.

That’s one of the reasons homeowners—and even other plumbers—call Aaron Services for difficult sewer and drain problems.

What Happens During a Hydro Jetting Service?

1. We inspect the drain.

If needed, we’ll perform a sewer camera inspection to understand what’s causing the blockage before recommending hydro jetting.

2. We clean the pipe.

A specialized hydro jetting nozzle uses high-pressure water to remove grease, sludge, scale, and many root blockages from the inside of the pipe.

3. We verify the results.

After cleaning, we inspect the pipe again when appropriate to confirm the blockage has been removed and look for any structural problems that may still need attention.

Not Every Sewer Problem Needs Hydro Jetting.

Some pipes benefit from hydro jetting, while others need a sewer camera inspection, descaling, or repair. We’ll explain what we find and recommend the solution that makes the most sense for your home.

Hydro Jetting vs. Drain Snaking

Not every clogged drain needs hydro jetting. In many cases, a traditional sewer machine is the right first step. Here’s how the two methods compare.

Drain SnakingHydro Jetting
Opens a path through the blockageCleans the inside walls of the pipe
Can punch a hole through grease so water can flow againRemoves grease buildup throughout the pipe
Best for soft clogsBest for grease, sludge, scale, and recurring clogs
Faster, but limited in scopeMore thorough cleaning
May leave buildup behindRemoves years of accumulated buildup when appropriate
Often a good first stepOften provides longer-lasting results

The right solution depends on what’s causing the problem. We’ll inspect your drain, explain what we find, and recommend the option that makes the most sense for your home.

Common Drain Problems We See

Grease and Sludge Buildup

Grease, soap residue, and sludge slowly reduce the inside diameter of drain pipes. Hydro jetting removes this buildup far more thoroughly than traditional snaking.

Roots in the Sewer Line

Tree roots naturally seek moisture and often enter sewer lines through joints and small cracks. Hydro jetting can remove many root blockages, but recurring roots usually indicate the pipe itself needs repair.

Cracked or Broken Pipes

Hydro jetting will not repair a broken sewer line. However, cleaning the pipe often makes it easier to perform a complete camera inspection and develop the right repair plan.

Pipe Bellies and Improper Slope

When part of a sewer line settles, wastewater collects in the low spot instead of flowing freely. Hydro jetting may temporarily improve flow by removing buildup, but correcting the slope requires repairing or replacing the affected section.

Real Example: Hydro Jetting Bought Time for a Lawrenceville Homeowner

A Lawrenceville homeowner was dealing with repeated sewer backups. A camera inspection showed two problems: grease buildup inside the sewer line and a section of pipe that didn’t have enough slope for wastewater to flow properly.

Completely correcting the slope would have required major excavation beneath the home’s slab foundation. Since the homeowner wasn’t ready for that project, we recommended hydro jetting to remove the grease buildup and restore flow.

Hydro jetting didn’t fix the underlying slope issue—but it relieved the immediate problem, bought the homeowner time to plan for a future repair, and helped them avoid another backup in the meantime.

Sometimes the best recommendation isn’t the biggest repair. It’s the solution that makes the most sense for the homeowner today.

CJ came out to repair a leaking water line. Since the leak came from under my foundation, he relocated the water line. He and his team got the work done fairly quickly and everything looks good.

Steve Kaufman is one of the best professional I worked with. During quote visit I was instantly impressed with his solution, expertise, and old school respect and craftsman mentality. He articulated a plan that not only solve current problem but potential contingency issues once concrete is opened up. I awarded the contract on spot despite 2 other proposals at lower costs. we had a nasty main line leak at foundation, Steve navigated the complex problem with ease and while maintaining thorough attention to details. For example he filled the wash cavern and compacted it which no other firms offered and some directly declined to do. Steve is patient and friendly and addressed my incessant questions and concerns. The job was completed with expediency, with the area clean and neat as if nothing bad ever happened.

An Update to my review of Aaron Services! Another Great Experience! -- Prompt, Professional, and Friendly service! I continue to be glad to recommend Aaron Services for your plumbing needs. I called for an appointment to address some outdoor faucets that were giving us trouble. Brandon worked diligently to address every concern. One of the faucets required cutting into a wall for access to replace it. Brandon's work was excellent and the result was a thing of beauty, inside and out! Since the house was on the market for sale, our HOA Board members agreed that any home tour for prospective buyers should start at his faucet!! Great Plumbing Detective Work and Problem Solving! I highly recommend Aaron Services for the excellent plumbing work they have performed in my townhome over the years. Recently, I had rain water seeping in and flooding the floor of my residential elevator shaft. I thought the problem was a clogged drain in the floor but technician Chris skillfully determined that the drain was never connected up and was left open in one of my walls. In order to make use of this existing drain pipe, he had to excavate into the concrete floor of the elevator shaft and install a sump pump to catch the water that might seep in and then pump it through the existing drain pipe up to where the connection should have been originally made but wasn't. Chris showed great skill as a detective to find the cause of my problem! He worked with great patience and diligence as every aspect of this job posed challenges, especially with excavating a very thick concrete foundation in the shaft. I am grateful for his expertise and kind demeanor to explain and keep me apprised of the intricacies of his work that took several days to complete. I also appreciated Renee's helpful voice on the phone with scheduling and assisting my communication with Chris throughout the process. Aaron Services is an impressive company with an impressive staff!

Several month ago we had a major plumbing issue—a foundation leak—and Aaron Plumbing sent Dyllan to handle the job. He was absolutely fantastic! Professional, friendly, and punctual, he made a stressful situation so much easier. Not only did he do an amazing job fixing the issue, but he also took the time to clean up the entire area when he was done, which we truly appreciated. This is the third time we've used Aaron Plumbing, and every experience has been excellent. We highly recommend this company, and if you get the chance to work with Dyllan, you're in great hands!

Aaron's Plumbing was awesome. I thought I had a slab leak and when Stevie assessed everything he discovered it was a leak behind the powder room wall. Thanks to Stevie I didn't have to pay as much on repairs.

Hydro Jetting FAQ

Is hydro jetting always the best drain cleaning option?

No. Hydro jetting is excellent for grease, sludge, scale, and some root intrusion, but it isn’t the right solution for every drain problem. If a pipe is broken, sagging, or structurally damaged, repair may be the better long-term option.

Will you inspect the sewer line before jetting?

When appropriate, we use sewer camera inspections and locating equipment so our recommendations are based on the actual condition of the pipe—not guesswork.

Can hydro jetting remove tree roots?

Often, yes. Hydro jetting can break apart and flush many root intrusions from a sewer line. However, if roots continue entering through cracks or failed joints, the pipe itself will likely need repair.

Can hydro jetting help me avoid sewer replacement?

Sometimes. If buildup is causing the blockage, hydro jetting may restore excellent flow. If the pipe has structural damage, hydro jetting may buy time, but it won’t permanently repair the sewer line.

Do you offer same-day drain service?

Same-day service is available when possible, and Aaron Services never charges emergency service fees.
