Why’s my faucet leaking?
A dripping faucet might seem minor, but it can waste thousands of gallons a year and usually gets worse over time. Here’s what’s typically causing it:
Worn washer or O-ring – The most common cause, especially in older compression faucets. These rubber parts wear out and let water seep through.
Damaged cartridge – Single-handle faucets use cartridges that can crack or wear out. You may notice the drip gets worse when you adjust the handle.
Corroded valve seat – The connection between the faucet and spout can corrode over time, causing leaks around the spout.
Loose parts – Sometimes the packing nut or adjusting ring just needs tightening.
Quick fix to try: Make sure the faucet handle is fully closed. Sometimes what looks like a drip is just the handle not being turned all the way off.
If that doesn’t work, faucet repairs typically involve replacing internal parts. The fix depends on your faucet type and brand. We can diagnose exactly what’s wrong and often repair it on the spot.
