What are the signs of a slab leak?
Slab leaks can be sneaky – the water is under your foundation, so you won’t see an obvious puddle. Here’s what to watch for:
Unexplained spike in water bill – Often the first sign. If your usage didn’t change but your bill jumped, water is going somewhere.
Sound of running water – Hearing water when nothing is on? That’s a red flag.
Warm spots on the floor – If you have a hot water line leak, you may feel warm areas on tile or hardwood floors.
Cracks in walls or flooring – Water under the slab can cause foundation shifting, which shows up as cracks.
Mold or mildew smell – Moisture trapped under flooring creates the perfect environment for mold growth.
Damp carpet or warped flooring – Water eventually works its way up through the slab.
Low water pressure – If a significant amount of water is escaping through the leak, you may notice reduced pressure.
The meter test: Turn off all water in your home and check your water meter. If it’s still moving, you have a leak somewhere.
Slab leaks don’t fix themselves and get more expensive the longer they go. If you’re seeing these signs, we can use leak detection equipment to pinpoint exactly where the problem is – often without tearing up your floors. Want to schedule an inspection?
